The Camelback Shotgun type evolved in response to city tax laws. Because the city levied taxes based on the story height
of a building's street frontage, many single Shotguns were amended to include a second story to the rear of the lot.
The Shotback is conceived as a Camelback flipped on its back and rotated. This maneuver creates a double-height
porch face on the street and lifts the private zones of the house program above the ground to the rear. The interior
spaces that previously comprised the two-story portion of the traditional Camel Back, are transformed into a double-height
living and dining area immediately behind the porch.
